Presentation

The Brazilian Symposium on Information Systems (SBSI) is an annual event that focuses on the presentation of scientific papers as well as the discussion of relevant issues in the Information Systems area, bringing together students, researchers and professionals that work on the area. SBSI program includes technical sessions, talks, short courses, panels and workshops.

The Workshop on Information System Scientific Initiation (WICSI 2017) is a Brazilian event dedicated to the presentation of research works developed by undergraduate students in the IS area. The purpose of the WICSI is to encourage the development of scientific initiation researches and, at the same time, to motivate the IS community to present scientific initiation works related to the several SBSI topics of interest.

Undergraduate students are invited to submit their works, which includes proposals and partial results of their scientific and technologic researches in IS area. Scientific initiation projects already finished can also be submitted, even if the student had been graduated in the second semester of 2016. Papers will be reviewed by WICSI program committee members and the selected ones will be presented at the workshop.

The expected audience of WICSI are undergraduate students, as well as their supervisors (professors or postgraduate students), that intend to present their ongoing or concluded research projects. The workshop participants will have the opportunity to attend an important forum dedicated to the presentation and discussion of researches developed by undergraduate students in the IS area. The goal is to stimulate the integration of students with members of academy and industry, as well as to provide visibility for these new potential researchers and professionals.

Submission Instructions

Papers submitted to WICSI are limited to 4 pages, including figures, tables, references, and so on. Some additional requirements must also be considered:

• Papers can be written in Portuguese (an abstract in English is additionally required, in this case) or English. The only accepted format is PDF;
• Papers must be in accordance to the ACM formatting guidelines ( http://www.acm.org/sigs/publications/proceedings-templates).
• Papers must present, in a clear way, the contributions, as well as the problems and domains/environments on which they are suitable to. The following structure is suggested to the papers: Introduction, Fundamentals, Research Methodology, Results and Conclusion; Supervisors and other collaborators must also be authors of the papers;
• The selection of papers will be based on the program committee members’ reviews. A double-blind review will be accomplished and each paper will be analyzed by at least two reviewers. Besides paper header, any bibliographic reference that identifies paper provenance must be removed from paper submission version, like authors’ names, project names, tools and citations that identify authors, and must be replaced by “removed for double-blind review.”. This information will only be included in the camera-ready version, in case of paper acceptance;
• Submissions must be directed to the track “SBSI 2017 – WICSI” of the SBC JEMS system https://submissoes.sbc.org.br/home.cgi?c=2702. Submissions not in PDF format, and papers that exceed the page limits or do not respect the formatting guidelines will not be considered.

Publication Requirements

Accepted papers will be published in a specific section of the SBSI 2017 proceedings and are conditioned to the registration of one of their authors. We strongly recommend that at least one of the students responsible to the research described in the paper be registered for the event. A registration allows the publication of only one paper. Additional accepted papers require additional registrations and, in case of WICSI, all registrations can be done in the “undergraduate student” category. Selected papers must be presented by the students during the workshop. Oral presentations and/or posters are allowed.
