SBSI 2017 Main Track – Call for Papers

The Brazilian Symposium on Information Systems (SBSI) is an event that focuses on the presentation of scientific papers as well as the discussion of relevant issues in the Information Systems area, bringing together students, researchers and professionals that work on the area. SBSI program includes technical sessions, talks, minicourses, panels and workshops. The main purpose of SBSI is to promote discussions in the IS area considering all its inherent interdisciplinarity and its applications in several domains.

The 13th SBSI edition will held from 5-8 June 2017, in Lavras-MG, with the theme “Information Systems for Participatory Digital Governance”. Advances reached by the IS community on this theme, as well as research challenges and perspectives, will be discussed during the Symposium. This edition will focus on the role of Information Systems in the democracy of countries with the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), especially with the empowerment of society in decisions at all levels of government. Electronic participation has highlighted the importance of direct interactions between citizens, the political system and governments. If on the one hand, there is the advance of virtual social networks and other forms of electronic communication in society; on the other hand, the initiatives of the governments providing open information systems demand advances of research in Information Systems.

We invite authors to submit technical papers that clearly point out new contributions to the research, as well as industry experiences, case studies, and demos of tools and applications, in the IS area and related to the SBSI topics of interest. We invite the IS community to bring contributions to the SBSI 2017 theme.

Instructions for submission

We accept paper submissions for SBSI 2017 in two categories: full paper or short paper.
Full papers: complete research papers or papers in an advanced stage of development, with new ideas and results that follow an appropriated scientific methodology. Paper space must have at least 7 pages and it is limited to 8 pages, including figures, tables, diagrams, references and attachments. Papers submitted in this category can be accepted as “short papers” by the program committee. Only full papers will be considered for SBSI best papers award. Short papers: ongoing research papers with partial results, and following an appropriated scientific methodology. Paper space must have at least 3 pages and it is limited to 4 pages, including figures, tables, diagrams, references and attachments.

Some additional aspects must be considered:

• A paper must be submitted in English or Portuguese, in PDF format, and respects the ACM model for paper publishing – ACM SIG Proceedings templates (templates available here). Submissions must be done through SBC JEMS platform. A paper written in Portuguese must also present corresponding title in English and abstract for the camera-ready version, if accepted. In case of acceptance, detailed submission instructions will be given.

• A submitted paper must be original, i.e., it cannot be published (or in ongoing evaluation or edition for further publication) in other event proceedings or journals.

• The paper header cannot have any kind of author identification (blind review). Papers with some author identification will be automatically rejected.

• The selection of papers will be accomplished by SBSI 2017 program committee members. The review process is double-blind and each paper will be reviewed by 3 program committee members. Besides paper header analysis, any bibliographic reference that identifies paper provenance must be removed from paper submission version, like authors’ names, project names, tools and citations that identify authors. In case of acceptance as full paper or short paper, authors must include, for the camera-ready version, all previously omitted data (names, affiliations, e-mails, as well as additional information – e.g., citations to other authors’ papers).

• A paper will be evaluated according to the following criteria: SBSI scope adequacy, bibliographic review, scientific methodology, contribution to the IS area, originality and clarity.

Publication

The publication of an accepted paper at SBSI 2017 proceedings is conditioned to the registration, in the professional category, of at least one of the authors. A registration allows the publication of only one paper. Additional accepted papers require additional registrations, being at least one of them in the professional category. SBC members must be payed the 2017 annuity to be benefited with registration discount.

The authors of the SBSI 2017 best papers will be invited to submit an extended version of their papers to the iSys (IS Brazilian Journal) or RESI (IS Electronic Journal).

Papers from previous editions of SBSI are available at BDBComp. We invite authors to visit the digital library to find out possible related work. Main Track Chairs
